Belgium’s Remco Evenepoel won the elite men’s road race at the 2026 UEC Road European Championships. Slovenia’s best-placed rider Primož Roglič finished 10th. In the junior women’s race, Italy’s Azzurra Ballan claimed the European title.
The highlight of the third day of racing was the 196.3-kilometre elite men’s road race from Ljubljana to Šenčur. Belgium’s Remco Evenepoel was crowned European champion after beating Italy’s Giulio Ciccone at the finish, with Ciccone’s compatriot Christian Scaroni taking third place.
“It’s incredible. I really have to thank my teammates because they raced exactly as we had planned. I attacked before the final descent and Ciccone and I were left at the front. We worked well together, and in the sprint I already thought I wasn’t going to make it. Then I saw him slowing down and passed him just before the finish line. I’m incredibly happy and proud,” Evenepoel said after his victory.
Slovenia’s best-placed rider Primož Roglič crossed the finish line in 10th place, one minute and 19 seconds behind the winner. The race was also a special one for Luka Mezgec, who brought his racing career to a close at his home European Championships after 14 seasons as a professional cyclist.
In the junior women’s race, Italy’s Azzurra Ballan claimed the European title on the 66.3-kilometre course starting and finishing in Šenčur. France’s Morgane Lestrade finished second, while Germany’s Klara Dworatzek took third. Slovenia’s best-placed rider Hana Jeromel finished 41st.
