The Municipality of Vodice lies in the heart of central Slovenia, just a few kilometres from Ljubljana and Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport. Covering an area of 31.4 km², it comprises 16 settlements and has a population of just over 5,200. Thanks to its location, good transport connections, and well-preserved natural and cultural heritage, it is an excellent starting point for exploring the countryside in the immediate vicinity of the capital.

ATTRACTIONS
Šinkov Turn Castle
At the northern foot of Rašica lies the village of Šinkov Turn, which takes its name from the former castle. Its history dates back to the 13th century, when a defensive tower surrounded by walls was built on the site. Over the centuries, the castle changed hands several times and underwent a number of reconstructions before being destroyed by fire during the Second World War. Today, the surviving remains recall its former appearance.
Church of St Tilen
The Church of St Tilen stands on the slopes of Repenjski hrib, surrounded by preserved defensive walls that once protected local residents from Ottoman raids. A church on this site was first mentioned in 1476, while the present building dates from 1731. Its interior features furnishings and frescoes created by local artists.
Birthplace of Jernej Kopitar
The birthplace of Jernej Kopitar, a Slovenian linguist and Slavic scholar and one of the important figures in Slovenian cultural history, is located in Repnje. It lies along the St Tilen Trail, which also connects several other places of interest in the surrounding area.
CULINARY SPECIALITIES
Vodice Pretzels
Vodice pretzels are one of the most distinctive specialities of Vodice. The Jagodic family has been preserving the pretzel-making tradition since 1932 and continues to prepare them according to an old recipe from Adergas. Their characteristic figure-eight shape, crisp texture and sheen are also the result of a special preparation method in which the pretzels are boiled before baking.

St Tilen Trail
This well-marked walking trail starts in Repnje, passes the birthplace of Jernej Kopitar and climbs to the Church of St Tilen, which offers views across the Vodice valley. From there, the trail continues through the forest and along the ridge towards the Old Castle in Smlednik.
Stove-Making Tradition
In Polje pri Vodicah, the Fujan family, locally known as the Lončar family, has been preserving the tradition of pottery and stove-making for more than 135 years. Today, they are best known for their handmade ceramic stove tiles for traditional stoves and fireplaces, alongside a variety of other ceramic and artistic pieces. Their craft represents one of the distinctive artisanal traditions of the Vodice area.
Cycling
The quiet country roads around Vodice offer excellent opportunities for road and recreational cycling. The area is also associated with several established cycling events, including the Maraton Franja BTC City, L’Etape Slovenia by Tour de France and the Grand Prix of the Municipality of Vodice.
